Emma Jones Returns to "We Shall Overcome – Rough Sleep" This December

At Perry Jones Funeral Services, community support doesn’t stop at the doors of our funeral home. It's about compassion, dignity—and taking action where it’s needed most. That’s why our founder and funeral director, Emma Jones, is proud to be taking part in this year’s “We Shall Overcome – Rough Sleep” event at The Station Pub, Ashton, on 6th December 2025.

Emma previously participated in the event in 2022 and 2023, taking the time to raise awareness and vital funds for people experiencing homelessness in Ashton and surrounding areas.

Although she was unable to join in 2024 due to her son’s birthday, Emma is making her return this year with renewed energy and commitment.

What is “We Shall Overcome – Rough Sleep”?

“We Shall Overcome” is a grassroots movement that brings people together in solidarity with those facing homelessness, poverty, and hardship. The “Rough Sleep” event is one night of voluntarily sleeping rough—held in safe conditions—to raise both awareness and money for local support services.

It’s not about replicating the true hardship of homelessness—but about recognising it, showing empathy, and helping make a tangible difference.

Why Emma Takes Part

“It’s always a powerful, emotional night,” Emma says. “You feel the cold, the discomfort—but most of all, you think about the people who face this every single night without choice. Taking part is just one small way I can support the community I grew up in.”

As someone deeply committed to supporting people through their most vulnerable moments, Emma sees this as an extension of her role—standing up for dignity, compassion, and care in all forms.

The Event at The Station Pub, Ashton

The Station Pub has hosted this annual event as a hub for community-led action. Participants bring sleeping bags, wrap up warm, and spend the night outside or in sheltered spots around the venue.

There’s always a strong sense of unity, shared purpose, and local pride.

Funds raised go directly to Pauline’s outreach support, tackling homelessness and poverty in Tameside and Greater Manchester.

How You Can Help

Emma is currently preparing for this year’s event on Saturday, 6th December 2025, if you wish to sponsor this event, the link can be found by clicking here.

Standing Together, Year After Year

Even though she had to miss the 2024 event, Emma's commitment to the cause hasn’t wavered. This December, she’ll be back—blankets in hand, heart open—standing alongside others who believe that no one should have to sleep rough.

Let’s come together, once again, and show what Ashton is made of.
